Communications Specialist

Job Summary
The Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting in the analysis of organizational needs, market opportunities and threats.  The Specialist supports management of the Communications Plan and the associated timelines, strategies, and tactics. The Specialist helps develop communications, marketing and advertising materials, and messaging for use with various mediums and vehicles (e.g., print, electronic, in-person, etc.).  The position develops and implements promotion and education strategies for target audiences.  The Specialist is responsible for building brand recognition and perception of the organization’s brand.  The position is responsible for the creation, coordination and completion of graphics design and photography and audiovisual production for print, digital, and online. The Specialist will help to pursue collaboration efforts with local community agencies and internal departments, including events sponsorship and/or participation with local agencies and internal departments. The Specialist assists with department needs, which may include activities associated with content of social media and Internet/website, and Intranet.

Education
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Design or related field or in lieu of degree, a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Experience
• Implementation of communications strategy (2 years).
• Implementation of marketing strategy (2 years).
• Development and design of communications materials and use of mediums and vehicles (e.g., print, electronic, in person, etc.) (2 years).
• Use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) applications (2 years).
• Graphic design/desktop publishing, including design, proofing and editing (2 years). 

Preferred:
• Audiovisual marketing, including design, proofing and editing.
• Photography and photo editing. 
• Participating, planning and hosting community events. 
• Working in a not-for-profit organization.
• Working with low income, multi-ethnic populations.
• Community health center, medical/dental practice or other health care setting experience. 

Other
• Driver's license with the State of Washington.
• Acceptable driving record, for auto liability coverage through Community Health Center of Snohomish County.
• Motor vehicle insurance liability policy, a certificate of deposit, or a liability bond to the required limits.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
 
Job Specific Functions/Performance Expectations: 
1. Strategy – Assists in the analysis of organizational needs, market opportunities, and threats and supports communications strategies and tactics through a Communications Plan.
2. Messaging – Assists in the management of the Communications Plan, the associated timelines, development of communications materials (writing, editing, etc.) and messaging for use with various mediums and vehicles (e.g., print, electronic, in-person, etc.).
3. Marketing/Advertising/Promoting/Educating – Assists in the management of the Communications Plan, the associated timelines, and development of marketing and advertising materials for use with various mediums and vehicles (e.g., print, electronic, in person, etc.). Develops and implements promotion and education strategies for target audiences.
4. Internal and External Communications - Manages the design, editing, and publication for internal communication materials and external marketing/advertising materials.  
5. Brand Integrity – Builds recognition and perception of the organization’s brand internally and within the community through maintaining consistent style guidelines, messaging, and visual identity. Educates staff as to the importance of brand identity.
6. Internal Relationships – Develops strong relationships and collaborates with coworkers, teams, subject matter experts, and leadership on strategies, tactics, topics, data and informatics, and collateral materials in support of content development and messaging for the organization and to the target audiences.
7. Patient Services – Assists in providing enabling services, such as translation of materials, design of signage, and publication of health education materials with a focus on health literacy.  Assists with the management of patient feedback (e.g., compliments and complaints, etc.).
8. Design – Supports the creation, coordination and completion of graphics design and audiovisual production for print, digital and online. Designs and produces artwork (or work with external vendors) for communications-related projects. When needed, develops scripts, storyboards, and directs and edits multimedia (audio/video) content for internal/external promotion.
9. Intranet/Company Websites – Assists coworkers and the department with internet/website and intranet design and content.
10. Social Media and Online Presence – Assists coworkers and the department with social media strategy, content development, postings, and well as the editing, approval monitoring, and tracking of the organization’s social media sites.
11. Community Relations and Partnerships – Assists in the development, building and maintaining of business to consumer relationships with patients and the general public.  This will include pursuing collaboration efforts with local community agencies and internal departments including events sponsorship and/or participation with local agencies and internal departments. Drives (arranges for) company vehicle to organizational hosted and/or community sponsored events and activities.
12. Inventory – Assists in the management of department inventory of collateral materials, updating and re-ordering as needed.
13. Data Analysis/Reporting – Produces communications and marketing related reports for area of responsibility.
14. Department Collaboration – Assists with department needs, which may include activities associated with content of social media and Internet/website and Intranet. 
15. Attendance – Adheres to standards in order to perform the job functions for daily operations and/or continuity of patient care.
